A Pioneer’s Remembrance

Turner_The_Battle_of_Trafalgar

Twas a bonnie time there, Lass
When hearty souls
Did climb the mast,
To flaunt the Crown
And birth the past

And ‘ere real Men,
Were Men there still
Ere the times,
Became what will

Daniel Boone
Led us on the trail
We lost our sons,
Our women wailed
But we’re the ones,
Who last prevailed:

We forged a nation

We could look ye in the eye,
Our handshake bore no taint
And many were our sinners,
But finer were our Saints

We brewed our own home brew
We loved our wives,
Our children grew
We stood our ground,
We claimed our due:

We were the Proud, the Strong, the Few

Our fiddles
Charmed our tunes
While yonder there,
We danced the moon
And ‘ner a dare,
Was won too soon
And foe beware,
But friend was boon

Twas a bonnie time there, Lass
When hearts still thrilled,
And Spirits walked
When Hawk still shrilled,
And magic stalked
When Freedom spake,
As each man talked

We owed no Govner’ our dime
We plowed our land,
We served our time
We gave our fruit,
From our first vine
For our Sons bled,
They held the Line:

That freedom’s branch would prosper

We had few laws,
An we got by:
“Trust in God,
Keep Powder Dry”,
Twas rule of the day,
Each one forged their own way

We carved a nation,
We birthed her Soul
We played our part,
We lived our role
Some blazed a trail,
Some panned for Gold
But ‘ere we tred:

The Free, The Bold

Within the hills,
Some came to be
While on the shore,
Some took to sea
But where we were,
We all stood free,
As every son, was born to be:

The child he was, of Destiny

Twas a bonnie time there, Lass
Where hearty souls stood brave and fast,
There seizing gauntlet, shed their past
To sail away, with wind struck mast,
To launch their fate, and land where cast
To bear their weight, to shield cruel blast

Some lost their lives, some lost their mate,
All paid the fare, to sail their fate

And ‘ner a prayer was said,
Ore many a final bed
And ‘ner a tear was shed,
Ore many worthy dead
Where brave men fell to bones,
Where cowards ‘ner dared to roam

Some said,
We were crazy
Some said,
We were free
But all we truly were,
We were ever meant to be

We chose to walk the trail
Storm the future, ride the rail,
We ‘ner did mind the freezing rain
Nor the hard day won,
On the windswept plain
We took to heart,
The hard road’s claim;
Twas all for freedom, and in her name:

We’re right proud, we’ll take the blame!

Twas a Bonnie time there, Lass!
